2023 Chalari Aromatikós
Appearance: Very Pale lemon, clear rim
Nose: Perfumed rosewater, cinnamon, saffron, matcha tea, yuzu lemon
Palate: Glossy richness offering a more rounded textural, lees-driven mouthfeel balanced by grapefruit, preserved lemon-like acidity; cinnamon spice on the mid palate with hints of sweet lychee and saline adding further complexity, texture and palate length. Food: Malaysian curry, Salmon sashimi, wild boar pâté, waldorf salad, quiche Lorraine
A 60-40 blend of classic aromatic varieties Riesling and Gewürztraminer, picked one week apart from each other, We lightly whole bunch pressed all the fruit for this wine with a slow cool ferment; wild fermented separately with some 3 months of lees contact in all stainless steel to preserve both aromatics and flavour, which are so essential for these two varieties to show off their beautiful aromatics. No fining took place and only the bare minimum of sulphites added.
The Riesling was sourced from Swinney’s Powderbark vineyard in Frankland River. This vineyard sits on ironstone soils and with excellent elevation.
The Gewurztraminer was sourced from Swinney’s Wilson’s Pool vineyard in Frankland River. Growing in ironstone and loam soils the Gerwurztraminer develops some amazing aromatics in these growing conditions.
